*****************************************************
Dragages Hong Kong Limited, China Harbour Engineering Company Limited and VSL Hong Kong Limited were each fined $43,500 at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today (February 1) for violation of the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations, the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Lifting Appliances and Lifting Gear) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation.  The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case related to a fatal accident that occurred on October 19, 2014 in Chek Lap Kok.  While a team of five workers was conducting a load test of a lifting frame system that was installed on the deck of a viaduct under construction, the lifting frame system suddenly collapsed and partly crashed onto the ground. As a result, one worker died and the other four sustained injuries.
