At 11.54am and 1.15pm yesterday (January 31), two fights broke out at a Leather Making Workshop and a Carpentry Workshop respectively in Stanley Prison. Eight male persons in custody, aged between 25 and 42, were involved in the fights. Three of them sustained minor injuries during the fights and were treated at the centre hospital but did not need to be transferred to a public hospital. The persons in custody concerned were removed from association and put under investigation. The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

Intelligence revealed that the fights broke out in relation to illicit trading of food materials in the kitchen. During the operation, 10 persons in custody suspected of being involved in illicit activities were removed from association and put under investigation. The atmosphere at Stanley Prison is currently stable. The CSD will continue to closely monitor any developments and the activities of the persons in custody concerned.

In order to assist persons in custody to rehabilitate in a safe and orderly environment, the CSD spares no effort in combating illicit activities of all kinds in its institutions.

Stanley Prison is a maximum security prison for the detention of male adult persons in custody, including remand and convicted persons in custody.
