SFH visits Tai Po District (with photos)

     The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, visited Tai Po District today (January 31) to officiate at the launching ceremony of the Tai Po District 2018 Year-end Clean-up, inspect Tai Po Hui Market and the Cooked Food Centre and meet with members of the Tai Po District Council (TPDC).

     Officiating at the launching ceremony, Professor Chan said, "With the approach of the Year of the Dog and in line with the tradition of cleaning up before the Lunar New Year, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has commenced a three-week major clean-up campaign across the territory to raise the awareness of the public to maintain environmental hygiene and create a cleaner and more comfortable living environment together.

     "During the campaign, the FEHD will step up the cleaning of public facilities under its management including public markets, cooked food centres, hawker bazaars, public toilets and refuse collection points. Cleaning at hygiene black spots in all districts will also be stepped up. In addition, the FEHD will conduct mosquito and rodent prevention and control operations in targeted places according to each district's circumstances. Temporary junk collection points will be set up for people to discard large items of household waste."

     Professor Chan also distributed cleaning packs and leaflets to local residents and appealed to them to maintain personal and environmental hygiene.

     Accompanied by the Chairman of the TPDC, Mr Cheung Hok-ming; the Vice Chairman of the TPDC, Ms Wong Pik-kiu; and the District Officer (Tai Po), Ms Andy Lui, Professor Chan then visited Tai Po Hui Market and Cooked Food Centre at Tai Po Complex to inspect the facilities of the market and learn more about the business environment of the stalls.

     Before concluding the visit, Professor Chan met with TPDC members to listen to their views on various health and environmental hygiene issues.
