***************************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (January 31) announced its approval of the 21st batch of applications for the trial of green innovative transport technologies under the Pilot Green Transport Fund.

The nine newly approved applications are for the trials of three electric light goods vehicles (van type), five hybrid light goods vehicles, five hybrid medium goods vehicles and the adoption of diesel-electric propulsion systems on two ferries, involving a total subsidy of about $9.2 million. The applications were from:

Cannan Moving Company Limited
Kau Kee Development Limited
Kei Shun International Logistic Limited
Pan Asia Pacific Aviation Services Limited
Po Tak Transport Limited
The "Star" Ferry Company, Limited

The latest approval brings the total number of trials being pursued under the Fund to 118 for testing three electric taxis, three electric light buses, 21 single-deck electric buses, 54 electric light goods vehicles (van type), 44 hybrid light goods vehicles, 28 hybrid medium goods vehicles, 11 hybrid public light buses, two single-deck hybrid buses, one bus solar air-conditioning system, four bus electric inverter air-conditioning systems, the adoption of diesel-electric propulsion systems on three ferries and a seawater scrubber on a ferry, amounting to a total subsidy of about $131 million.

At present, three electric taxis, three electric light buses, nine single-deck electric buses, 50 electric light goods vehicles (van type), 31 hybrid light goods vehicles, 20 hybrid medium goods vehicles, five hybrid public light buses, one bus solar air-conditioning system, four bus electric inverter air-conditioning systems and the adoption of a diesel-electric propulsion system and a seawater scrubber on a ferry subsidised by the Fund have begun their trials. Among them, three electric taxis, eight single-deck electric buses, 38 electric light goods vehicles (van type), 20 hybrid light goods vehicles, 12 hybrid medium goods vehicles, five hybrid public light buses, one bus solar air-conditioning system and one diesel-electric propulsion system and one seawater scrubber on a ferry have completed their trials. The EPD will continue to upload the interim and final reports once completed to the Fund's website for public information.

The Government set up the $300 million Fund in March 2011 to encourage the public transport sector to try out green innovative transport technologies. The Fund is open for applications from public transport operators, charitable and non-profit-making organisations providing services to clients, and goods vehicle operators. The technologies for trial include alternative-fuel vehicles, conversion of in-use conventional vehicles to alternative-fuel vehicles, and after-treatment emission reduction devices or fuel-saving devices related to transport activities. Transport operators may apply for the Fund to try out different green innovative products subject to a maximum subsidy of $9 million for each application and $12 million in total.
