***************************************************

Organised by the Hong Kong Police Force, the “One-Arm Push Up Challenge” (the Challenge) was officially launched at Stanley Plaza today (January 28) to promote the message of caring for animals and raise funds for abandoned and disabled animals.

Speaking at the kick-off ceremony, Police Director of Operations, Mr Tang Ping-keung, said that the Force had launched the Animal Watch Scheme since October 2011, adopting a four-pronged approach covering education, publicity, intelligence gathering and investigation to combat acts of cruelty to animals.

The Challenge aims to convey the message of caring for animals. By doing one-arm push ups, participants can experience the hardship of the disabled animals which helps to raise people’s awareness of caring for animals. Participants are encouraged to upload videos of themselves doing no less than three one-arm push ups to Facebook, and then tagging three or more friends to do the same. Participants and their nominated friends, no matter succeed or not, can donate $128 to the Society for Abandoned Animals in support of this meaningful event.

Closing ceremony of the campaign will be held on April 7 when more than 250 guests including members of the Police Force and Auxiliary Police, and sports elites, will be invited to do one-arm push ups together in a bid to set a Guinness World Records.

Also officiating at today's ceremony were the Director of Society for Abandoned Animals, Ms Sylvia Ferreira, the Commandant of Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force, Mr Yang Joe-tsi, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Support), Ms Lam Hiu-tong, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Personnel), Mr Siu Chak-yee, the Honorary Secretary General of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Mr Ronnie Wong, Associate Professor of Department of Physical Education, Hong Kong Baptist University, Dr Lobo Louie Hung-tak, and ex-athlete of Hong Kong Cycling Team, Mr Wong Kam-po.
