Hong Kong Observatory to hold training course on weather observation

     The Hong Kong Observatory will hold a weather observation training course in late February and early March. Members of the public are welcome to join.

     The course will be taught by experienced meteorological personnel of the Observatory. The content mainly covers basic weather observation techniques and methods, such as the observation and classification of clouds. Lecturers will also introduce details of various weather phenomena and hazards including tropical cyclones and related weather conditions, as well as the interpretation of weather charts, radar and satellite pictures. Participants will be able to gain a better understanding of the weather and how to take appropriate action in response to its changes. Participants will also have opportunities to practise weather observation and weather report coding.

     In addition, lecturers will introduce details of weather information on the "MyObservatory" mobile app and the Observatory website, and how to make use of the platforms on the Community Weather Observing Scheme (co-win.org/index.php/en or www.facebook.com/icwos) to share weather information.

     The course consists of two sessions, to be held on February 24 and March 3 from 9.15am to 12.30pm at the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters respectively. Both sessions will be conducted in Cantonese. The course fee is $140 per person.
