Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases at Tuen Mun Hospital

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in a Medicine and Geriatrics ward, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital gave the following update today (January 19):
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed contact tracing and one more 95-year-old female patient was confirmed as being a VRE carrier but without clinical symptoms. The patient had been discharged earlier.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
