SCED to visit Belgium and Switzerland

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, will leave Hong Kong on January 22 (Monday) for duty visits to Brussels, Belgium, and Davos, Switzerland, from January 22 to 26.
 
     During his visits, Mr Yau will meet with senior officials of the European Commission and Belgium in Brussels. In Davos, he will attend the World Trade Organization (WTO) Informal Ministerial Gathering and join part of the visit programme of the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam.
 
     Mr Yau will first visit Brussels on January 22 and 23. He will have meetings with senior officials of the European Commission and Belgium to strengthen Hong Kong's bilateral ties with them. He will also call on the Head of the Chinese Mission to the European Union and the Chinese Ambassador to Belgium, meet with the Board Members of the Belgium-Hong Kong Society and visit the Belgian Comic Strip Center.
 
     Mr Yau will then proceed to Davos on January 24 to join part of the Chief Executive's visit programme and attend the WTO Informal Ministerial Gathering to be held on January 26.
 
     At the WTO Informal Ministerial Gathering, ministers will exchange views on how to ensure the WTO's relevance for all members and how the multilateral trading system can contribute to the world economy and sustainable development. They will also share their assessment of the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference and views on the way ahead.
   
     Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong on January 27. During Mr Yau's absence, the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.
