Cluster of Parainfluenza Virus Type 4 cases in Tai Po Hospital

The spokesperson for Tai Po Hospital made the following announcement today (January 17):
Six patients (aged 65 to 83) of a female Psychiatric ward presented with respiratory symptoms since January 8. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and four of them were confirmed as having Parainfluenza Virus Type 4. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition.
Restricted visiting has been imposed and infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
