Appointments to Committee on Taxi Service Quality announced
***********************************************************
The Government today (January 9) announced the establishment of the Committee on Taxi Service Quality (CTSQ).

Chaired by the Commissioner for Transport, Ms Mable Chan, the CTSQ will serve as a multi-party platform to discuss strategies and measures to drive changes to enhance the service quality of some 18 000 existing taxis.

A spokesman for the Transport Department (TD) said, "The Government announced in the report of the Public Transport Strategy Study, published in June 2017, that the Quality Taxi Services Steering Committee under TD would be restructured to strengthen interaction and co-operation with the taxi trade and other stakeholders. The Committee is now revamped and renamed as CTSQ.

"The CTSQ will advise the Government on various initiatives to enhance the taxi service quality under the existing regulatory regime, which will include updating the set of service standards and guidelines for taxi drivers, reviewing the existing sanctions for various taxi malpractices to increase the deterrent effect, enhancing training courses for taxi drivers to improve their customer service skills, and introducing measures to improve the operational efficiency and quality of taxi services through the use of technology."

The CTSQ consists of non-official members from various sectors including the taxi trade, Legislative Council, District Councils, academia, the Consumer Council, the Hong Kong Tourism Board and persons with disabilities groups. All of these non-official members possess vast experience and rich knowledge in their own professions/sectors. The first term of the Committee will run for a period of three years from January 9, 2018, to January 8, 2021.

"The establishment of the CTSQ underlines the great importance we attach to enhancing the existing taxi service quality in collaboration with the trade and relevant stakeholders. We look forward to the CTSQ in examining various effective measures to help enhance taxi service quality," the spokesman said.
