A responsive web design has been adopted for the new site so it can be easily viewed with tablets and smartphones.
Users can watch news videos without having to install additional software.
The site is better integrated with related social media channels, including news.gov.hk's Facebook (www.fb.com/govnews.hk), Instagram (www.instagram.com/newsgovhk), YouTube (www.youtube.com/isdgovhk) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/newsgovhk) pages.
Other features include a night reading mode, adjustable font sizes and sharing to common social media platforms.
Launched in 2002, news.gov.hk presents government news, features, commentaries, updated information and useful resources in a dynamic multimedia fashion with an array of photos, videos and links to relevant websites.
More than 6 800 news and feature stories and about 1 500 video highlights were posted on the website in 2017.
