Child abuse case in Castle Peak reclassified as murder and ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of child or young person

     Police today (January 7) reclassified a child abuse case happened in Castle Peak yesterday (January 6) as murder and ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of child or young person.

     At about 1.15pm yesterday, Police received a report from a 26-year-old man that his 5-year-old daughter collapsed in a unit on Tuen Hop Street.

     Police officers sped to the scene and located the 5-year-old girl who sustained multiple injuries.  The girl was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 2.38pm yesterday.  Police officers later found the 8-year-old brother of the girl at the scene who sustained multiple injuries.  He was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in conscious state.

     Police arrested the 26-year-old father and 27-year-old stepmother of the children yesterday, and the 53-year-old mother of the 27-year-old woman today in suspected connection with the case.  They are being detained for further enquiries.

     Post-mortem examinations on the deceased will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of her death.

     Active investigation by the Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North is underway.
