BD's follow-up work on suspected unauthorised building works at Villa De Mer, Tai Lam, Tuen Mun

The BD received a media enquiry about suspected unauthorised building works (UBWs) at Houses 2, 3 and 4, Villa De Mer, Tai Lam, Tuen Mun at the end of December 2017. The department initiated follow-up investigation in line with its usual practice and deployed staff to conduct inspections of the houses concerned yesterday (January 5). As the BD officers could not obtain arrangement of entry into the houses concerned from the staff of the property management office, notices stating the intention of the BD to apply under the Buildings Ordinance (BO) for a warrant to enter the houses concerned and calling for the relevant property owners/occupants' assistance was left at the scene.
Since investigation work has not finished, the department has yet to verify the present condition of the houses concerned. It is inappropriate for the department to comment on the cases at this stage. In general, if UBWs are identified in a property, the property owner is required to make rectifications according to the law and BD’s requirements.
The BD has all along been impartially discharging its law enforcement duties in accordance with the BO and the prevailing enforcement policy on UBWs, irrespective of the identity of the persons in question.
