Update on cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter case in Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following update today (January 5) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of inpatients with Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) in a male surgical ward:

     The laboratory test sample of another 63-year-old patient of the ward has been confirmed as having MDRA, but he had no clinical symptoms of infection. He is under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition.

     QEH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
