Sick remand person in custody dies in public hospital

The remand person in custody suffered from multiple chronic diseases including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes mellitus and chronic renal failure. He required continuous medical care and follow-up at the institution hospital and public hospitals. On December 19, he was sent to a public hospital for treatment due to deteriorated physical condition. During hospitalisation, his condition further deteriorated and he was certified dead at 7.25am today.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The remand person in custody was remanded for the offence of handling of stolen goods in October 2016.
