Annual concerts to celebrate 40th anniversary of Music Office
The Youth Choir and Children's Choir will be joined by returning veterans and their respective choirs - King's College Old Boys' Association Primary School No. 2 Choir, Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School Mixed Choir and Sha Tin Methodist College Junior Treble Choir - in their annual concert to be held at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall at 8pm on February 4 (Sunday).
The programme will include Rutter's "Give Me Wings", Daley's "The Lake Isle of Innisfree", Besig's "As Long As I Have Music", Beck's "Solfege Song", Hayes's arrangement "Soon I Will Be Done", Chilcott's "Can You Hear Me?", Bach's "Magnificat Anima Mea (My Soul Magnifies the Lord)" and Fauré's "The Djinns". It will also include modern composer Ng Cheuk-yin's "I am Singing the Sounds of the World", Grammy awardee Christopher Tin's "Baba Yetu", the combined chorus singing of "This Is Our Home" arranged by Joseph Koo and the school song of the Music Office, "Music for the Millions".
Coinciding with its 40th anniversary, the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra will stage its annual concert at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall at 8pm on February 11 (Sunday). Under the batons of Music Office Instructors Tsui Ying-fai and Kwok Kin-ming and former Music Officer of the Chinese Section of the Music Office Ho Man-chuen, various generations of members will pay homage to the Orchestra through an all-time favourite rendition.
The concert will feature masterpieces of dazzling drums and orchestra music in "Flying Dragon and Jumping Tiger" with prolific Music Office alumnus Chin Kwok-wai as leading percussionist and principal pipa of the orchestra Leung Ka-lok as the soloist playing the mesmerising Pipa Concerto "Hua Mulan". Other programme highlights will include "The Departure of Zhaojun" by Wang Huiran and the Hong Kong premiere of "Hope for a Blissful Future" by Liu Changyuan.
