Fatal traffic accident in Ma On Shan

At about 12.45pm, a taxi driven by a 70-year-old man was travelling along Sai Sha Road west bound. When passing Nai Chung, it reportedly knocked down the 80-year-old woman who was waiting to cross the road on a safety island.
The woman was trapped under the vehicle and rescued by firemen. Sustaining hand, foot and abdominal injuries, she was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 1.24pm.
The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.
Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
