Update on cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter cases in Queen Elizabeth Hospital
***************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) gave the following update today (December 29) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of inpatients with Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) in a surgical ward:

The laboratory test samples of three patients (two males and one female, aged 64 to 82), without clinical symptoms of infection, in the ward are confirmed to have MDRA. All of them are in critical condition due to their underlying illnesses, and are under medical surveillance and isolation.

QEH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation in the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
