Communications Authority press release
**************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Communications Authority:

This press release summarises the Communications Authority (CA)'s decisions following its 70th meeting held in December 2017:

CA approves termination of the non-domestic television programme service licence of Big Big Channel Limited
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CA approved the application of Big Big Channel Limited (BBCL), (formerly known as TVB Network Vision Limited) (Note), to terminate its non-domestic television programme service licence with effect from January 1, 2018. The CA noted that the termination of the licence was a commercial decision of the licensee.

BBCL used to provide five satellite channels under its non-domestic television programme service licence targeting audience in Asia and North America. These channels were not for general reception in Hong Kong.

Following the termination of BBCL's licence, there will be 14 non-domestic television programme service licensees in Hong Kong providing over 180 satellite television channels targeting viewers in the Asia Pacific region.

Broadcast Complaint
-----------------------

The CA has considered a complaint case against the television programme "Forced Confession", broadcast on the Channel Adult of PCCW Media Limited (now TV) on March 7, 2017. The CA decided that Now TV should be seriously warned to observe more closely the relevant provisions in the Generic Code of Practice on Television Programme Standards. Details of the case are at: www.coms-auth.hk/filemanager/en/content_713/appx_20171228_en.pdf.

Note: TVB Network Vision Limited also held a domestic pay television programme service licence which was terminated on June 1, 2017.
