Sick person in custody died in public hospital

     A sick 75-year-old male person in custody at Stanley Prison died in a public hospital today (December 27).

     The person in custody, with the history of lung cancer, suffered from multiple chronic diseases including hypertension, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He required continuous medical care and follow-up at the institution hospital and a public hospital. On the morning of December 27, he was sent to a public hospital for treatment due to physical discomfort. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 4.17pm today.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The person in custody was convicted for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug in August 2017.
