     The Secretary for Home Affairs (SHA), Mr Lau Kong-wah, today (December 27) presented commendation certificates and award pins to 173 persons in recognition of their dedicated services and remarkable contribution to the promotion of community building, community service, caring for the underprivileged, youth development and building management.
 
     Addressing the award presentation ceremony, Mr Lau thanked and complimented the awardees for their enthusiastic participation in serving the community and selfless contributions to society in different areas.
   
     "Community engagement is an important force in building a harmonious society. I am happy to see many people actively participate in district affairs and connect with the community. They put great efforts in community development and services, working together for the benefit of Hong Kong," he said.
       
     Mr Lau said he hoped that the awardees can inspire more people to care for the society and take action to build a better home for everyone.
       
     The SHA's Commendation Scheme, introduced in 2002, aims to recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions to community building, community service and the development of sport, culture and art.
