Speech by CS at HK Community Network poon choi feast and carnival (with photos/video)

Following is the speech by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung,at a poon choi feast and carnival held by the Hong Kong Community Network today (December 23):

I must thank the Henderson Land Development and also the Hong Kong Community Network for organising this very meaningful gathering today. This is more than a carnival. It is a gathering to show and demonstrate Hong Kong's social inclusiveness and of course our acceptance of respect for ethnic minorities. Let me remind everybody here no matter where you come from, from Pakistan, India, Nepal, Philippines, Africa and so on, if you make Hong Kong your home, you are part of Hong Kong. You are part of us. No different from any Hong Kong citizens, so you are part of Hong Kong. Treat Hong Kong as a home. The Government actually attaches great importance to the well-being of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. We have been investing more, in terms of education, in terms of employment, social services and also all sorts of support services for ethnic minorities.

I am very grateful to community organisations that the Hong Kong Community Network and Henderson, joining hands with the Government to really promote a caring, compassionate, and cohesive community. And I hope you enjoy the food today, the poon choi is a very good idea, Chinese idea. Poon choi means round table, get together, family reunion. So we are part of the family of Hong Kong, so on that basis, let me wish you all Happy Christmas, and Happy New Year. Everybody a happy, healthy, harmonious new year. Thank you very much.
