Over 100 courses, ranging from Chinese and Western musical instrument classes to music workshops, and the newly added music therapy workshop and parent-child courses, offer a wide variety of choices for applicants. The courses will be held from March to July next year.

A new workshop on music therapy will introduce the history and development of music therapy, its principles and treatment process, the service targets and its application in daily lives. Different techniques of music therapy will be demonstrated in lessons in interactive ways. Adults who are interested in knowing more about music therapy are welcome to join the course at a fee of $300.

In another new course, "Parent-&-Child Series: Young Talents for Sight Reading", participants will be introduced to various techniques in improving their sight reading skills, eye-hand co-ordination, sense of rhythm and accuracy and speed of sight singing through different interesting activities. Children aged 6 to 10 are welcome to join the course and each child must be accompanied by a parent. The course fee is $600.

Regular workshop series include those for ocarina, ukulele, classical guitar, keyboard, classical vocal singing, Western music theory (Grades 1 and 2) and aural training. The ensemble training series covers Chinese traditional music, Cantonese operatic songs and flute, clarinet, saxophone, Western strings and Western chamber music. The course fees range from $300 to $750.

The courses also provide basic training on xiao, liuyeqin, zhong-ruan, pipa, yangqin, zheng, dizi, erhu, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, percussion (glockenspiel and practice pad), violin, viola and cello. The course fee is $1,000. Most of these courses offer Adult and Teenager Classes and Children Classes to cater for participants of different ages.

All courses are conducted in small groups in Cantonese and will be held at different venues throughout Hong Kong, namely the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Sha Tin Town Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Tuen Mun Town Hall, Sheung Wan Civic Centre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre, Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, Tai Po Civic Centre, Kwai Tsing Theatre, Yuen Long Theatre, Ko Shan Theatre, Hong Kong Central Library and the Music Office's music centres in Wan Chai, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.
