The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin (HKETO Berlin), Create Hong Kong and Axman Production jointly presented "Creative Visions: Hong Kong Cinema 1997-2017", featuring 10 specially curated Hong Kong films produced in the past 20 years, at cinemas in Prague, the Czech Republic, from December 8 to 12 (Prague time).
The programme, launched on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), featured legendary productions such as "Made in Hong Kong" and "Infernal Affairs" as well as the world premiere of "Lucid Dreams". The latter film's director, Teddy Robin, opened the programme together with Derek Kwok and Clement Cheng, who co-directed the opening film "Gallants", a 2010 film.
In her speech at the opening of "Creative Visions" on December 8 (Prague time), the Acting Director of HKETO Berlin, Ms Alison Lo, highlighted Hong Kong's reputation as a global powerhouse in the film industry. "Not only do we have one of the largest and most dynamic film entertainment industries in the world, our film talents and professionals have also managed to make their names known in both Eastern and Western movie markets." Ms Lo also referred to the new initiatives of the HKSAR Government to encourage the healthy development of creative industries. "Looking ahead, we will promote further development of the local film industry, and nurture more professionals for film production or post-production," she said.
The programme in Prague included brilliant works by some of the acclaimed players in Hong Kong's film industry, such as Ann Hui, Johnnie To and Wong Kar-wai. The 10 selected films shown in "Creative Visions" depict the diversity, versatility and dynamism of Hong Kong and local film productions in the past two decades. Each of them has a distinctive angle, subject or genre, ranging from triad gang stories to melodrama, and together they show why the city is a gem in the international film entertainment industry.
The Prague edition of "Creative Visions" closed HKETO Berlin's series of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the HKSAR. The office will continue to support Hong Kong's film industry through partnerships with some of the leading film festivals in Central and Eastern Europe in 2018.
