Statistics Advisory Board discusses developments of official statistics work

     The Statistics Advisory Board held a meeting today (December 12) to discuss official statistics work and its recent developments.

     At the meeting, members were briefed on the latest developments of statistics on research and development (R&D) and innovation activities in Hong Kong, including the statistical compilation framework adopted as well as the challenges of the related statistical work.

     The Commissioner for Census and Statistics and Chairman of the Statistics Advisory Board, Mr Leslie Tang, said, "The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) will continue to enhance the compilation framework of the statistics on R&D and innovation activities by keeping abreast of the latest industry developments and following closely the latest international guidelines, so as to meet the increasing data demands of different users."

     Moreover, members were briefed on the C&SD's current arrangements for releasing microdata of statistical surveys for academic use, the latest developments in this area and the considerations underlying the provision of this service.

     The Statistics Advisory Board is a non-statutory advisory body which advises the Commissioner for Census and Statistics on matters pertaining to government statistical work. Its membership consists of established professionals of the business sector, academia and the community, which provides for wide representation to assist the Commissioner in integrating views of data users, data suppliers and statisticians.
