Kwun Tong blood donation centre service hours extended (with photo)

The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) today (December 5) announced the extension of the service hours of the Kwun Tong Donor Centre from next Monday (December 11) to facilitate blood donation by members of the public.
The spokesperson for the BTS said that the service hours of the centre, which is located at Units 2301 and 2316 at 23/F, Millennium City 5, Kwun Tong Road, will be from 11am to 8pm from Monday to Sunday and on public holidays.
"Following the extension of service hours at the Causeway Bay and Tsuen Wan Donor Centres in August this year, Kwun Tong Donor Centre is the third centre to meet the needs of the community as well as daily living habits of the public so as to facilitate blood donation after school or work to save patients' lives."
In addition, the spokesperson pointed out that due to the impact of weather, the number of donors did not reach the daily target of 1 100 in the past week. It is also anticipated that the decreasing temperature in the coming few weeks and the upcoming long holidays of Christmas and New Year will further pull blood donors away from their regular donation schedules. The BTS appeals for the support of all sectors in the community to secure sufficient and stable blood supply for critically and chronically ill patients.
To show gratitude to all blood donors for their support, anyone who successfully donates blood at a donor centre from December 9 to 15 will receive an "I Have My Type" Card Holder while stocks last.
Anyone who is aged between 16 and 66 (donation is possible up to the age of 76 if predetermined conditions are met), weighs over 41 kilograms and is in good health is eligible to give blood. Male and female adult donors aged 18 or above can donate every 75 days and every 105 days respectively. Youths aged 16 and 17 can donate every 150 days.
