To enhance communication and liaison with the construction industry, the Fire Services Department (FSD) held a briefing at Kowloon Tong Fire Station today (November 24) on ideas and proposed measures to expedite the processing of building plans and acceptance inspection of fire service installations (FSIs) and equipment. Participants included stakeholders in architecture, construction and engineering industries, and representatives of private corporations and various government departments.

In view of the increased complexity and number of building projects, the FSD has ensured the effective approval of building plans and acceptance inspection of FSIs and equipment by conducting an internal review and prioritising its processing. The collaboration of the industry is also indispensable.

The briefing aimed to share with the industry the FSD's experience in effectively completing the processing of building plan approval and inspection of FSIs. The department also urged the industry to collaborate in order to expedite such processes.

During the briefing, the FSD also shared with the participants an analysis of circumstances that had arisen in the course of building plan approval and inspections for their discussion and reference.

Speaking at the opening address, the Assistant Director of Fire Services (Licensing and Certification), Mr Leung Kwun-hong, said, "With a view to ensuring that the FSIs and equipment provided in new building projects are up to the fire safety and functional standards, it is incumbent upon us to exert our best endeavour to scrutinise and examine all applications prudently in accordance with established standards of approval and certification.

"It will take co-operation between the FSD and stakeholders to reach a speedy and satisfactory completion of these inspections, by means of connection, collaboration and partnership."

The briefing was attended by about 150 representatives from the construction industry; professional institutes of architects, engineers and surveyors; registered FSI contractors; private corporations; and related government departments.
