EPD responds to media enquiries on working paper of Country and Marine Parks Board
***************************************************************

In response to today’s (November 23) media enquiries on the proposed development of spa and resort facilities in Tai A Chau as indicated in a working paper (WP/CMPB/12/2017) of the 65th meeting of the Country and Marine Parks Board, the Environmental Protection Department made the following clarification:

During the first and second rounds of stakeholder consultation of the detailed design of the proposed compensatory marine park for the Integrated Waste Management Facilities Phase 1, developing spa and resort facilities at Soko Islands is one of the preliminary proposals of the First-term Work Report of the Lantau Development Advisory Committee. Having reviewed the financial viability and the public comments received, the Civil Engineering and Development Department has decided that it is not appropriate to implement this proposal at this stage. Hence, the proposal was not included in the "Sustainable Lantau Blueprint" announced by the Development Bureau in June 2017. In view of the latest development, the Environmental Protection Department will revise the background map showing the existing, planned and potential marine facilities and development projects in South Lantau waters (i.e. Figure 6) in the Working Paper WP/CMPB/12/2017 to remove the spa and resort facilities and submit to the Country and Marine Parks Board for their consideration tomorrow (November 24).
