The Civil Aid Service (CAS) held the Civil Aid Service 65th Anniversary Parade at Southorn Playground in Wan Chai today (November 19). The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, officiated at the reviewing ceremony. In addition to members and cadets of the CAS, representatives of government departments and guests from the Mainland and overseas were also invited to the event in celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Service.

More than 500 participants, including members from various CAS regions and units and cadets, joined the splendid parade. The CAS Band, the CAS Cadet Corps Bicycle Demonstration Team and the CAS Social Club Interest Groups (Tai Chi and Choir) also performed in the event.

Over the past 65 years, volunteers of the CAS have been dedicated to serving the Hong Kong community with the motto "Provide Emergency Relief, Serve the Community". Examples of service include managing the Vietnamese boat people centres for 25 years, assisting in managing isolation centres during the outbreak of SARS in 2003, maintaining order for the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events, managing quarantine centres during the epidemic of human swine influenza in 2009, and providing immediate emergency services during typhoons or in the event of flooding, hill fires and mountaineering accidents.
