The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Mr Joshua Law, today (November 2) commended 100 civil servants for their outstanding work performance at the SCS's Commendation Award Presentation Ceremony 2017. The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, extended her congratulations to the award recipients and shared their joy at the cocktail reception held after the ceremony.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Mr Law said more than 1,000 civil servants have been commended since the launch of the scheme, but the number of outstanding civil servants is not confined to that. Citing as examples the colleagues whom he met during his visits to various departments after assuming office, Mr Law added that outstanding civil servants are professional and dedicated to their work, and present in all government workplaces.

He said, "I have met front-line civil servants and listened to their views and I hope to better address their concerns and provide them with appropriate support."

Mr Law said that the initiative announced by the Chief Executive in her Policy Address to augment the civil service establishment by at least 3 per cent in the next financial year aims to ease the work pressure on civil servants. The establishment of a new civil service college, he added, is to further enhance training for civil servants to rise to challenges ahead.

The SCS's Commendation Award Scheme was introduced in 2004 to commend colleagues who have achieved outstanding work performance continuously for at least five years. The Scheme has a meticulous selection process which requires nominations from Permanent Secretaries, departmental heads or heads of grades, and is adjudicated by a committee appointed by the SCS.

The 100 awardees under the SCS's Commendation Award Scheme this year come from 37 bureaux and departments and 48 grades.
