2017 Establishment Survey on Manpower and Job Skills Requirements starts
***************************************************************

The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) announced today (November 2) the commencement of the 2017 Establishment Survey on Manpower and Job Skills Requirements. The survey aims to collect information on the current and future manpower and job skills requirements of different industries, which will be useful as a reference for preparing the input parameters in projecting the future manpower demand in Hong Kong.

This survey covers about 7 500 establishments which are drawn from various industry sections including industrial sections (such as manufacturing; electricity, gas and waste management; and construction) and the services sections (such as import/export, wholesale and retail trades; accommodation and food services; transportation, storage, postal and courier services; information and communications; financing and insurance; real estate; professional and business services; and social and personal services). The sampled establishments will be required to provide information on the number of persons engaged as at end September 2017 and future manpower needs, as well as job skills requirements.

Notification letters have been sent to the sampled establishments individually together with the questionnaires and the explanatory notes. To assist these establishments in providing the required information, an electronic template of the questionnaire will also be available upon request.

This statistical survey is conducted under Part IIIA of the Census and Statistics Ordinance (Chapter 316) and notified in the Government Notice No. 7660 in the Government Gazette of October 20, 2017. The Ordinance stipulates that all collected information which may enable identification of individual establishments should be kept in strict confidence. Only aggregate information, which does not reveal details of individual establishments, will be released.

The Department would like to thank those establishments which had participated in previous rounds of the survey, and appeal for the support and co-operation of the management of all sampled establishments in the current survey round by returning the completed questionnaires to the Department on or before November 24, 2017.

If necessary, census officers of the C&SD may phone or visit individual establishments to offer assistance in completing the questionnaire. These officers will each carry an Enumerator Identity Card and a certificate for conducting the survey, which are available for inspection.

Enquiries regarding the survey may be directed to the Sectoral Economic Statistics Branch (3) of the C&SD (Telephone: 3579 2269 or email: 2017mps@censtatd.gov.hk).
