FSDC holds Career Day (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Financial Services Development Council:
 
     The Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) held its fourth Career Day at the Exchange Auditorium this afternoon (October 21) for tertiary students and young graduates to learn more about the career choices and prospects in Hong Kong's financial services industry. Speakers at the event included the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam; the Chairman of the FSDC, Mrs Laura M Cha; and the President of Asia Financial Holdings Limited, Mr Bernard Chan.
 
     The career day was attended by over 300 participants. In her opening remarks, Mrs Cha, said, "Personnel training is one of the cornerstones of our financial services industry's success. The FSDC is keen to provide young talents with first-hand information on the industry by connecting them with seasoned practitioners through different types of interactive events and initiatives."
 
     This year, the career day featured a keynote address by Mr Chan, who shared his inspirational career path and life lessons.
 
     Mrs Lam said in her closing remarks that given Hong Kong's promising development and opportunities in the financial services sector, it is the right city for a career in finance. She encouraged young graduates to stay abreast of traditional financial services and embrace the sector's emerging trends and market developments. 
  
     The event also featured two panel discussions on "Career in Finance" and "Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Finance", which offered participants practical tips for job searching and preparations for a career in finance. Speakers included Senior Partner and Managing Partner, Greater China, McKinsey & Company Hong Kong, Mr Joe Ngai; Independent Non-executive Director of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited Ms Anita Fung; the Chief Executive Officer, China and Co-Head of Investment Banking & Capital Markets, Asia Pacific, Credit Suisse (Hong Kong) Limited, Mr Mervyn Chow; the Regional Chief Executive of AIA Group Limited, Mr Jacky Chan; the President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Joint Council and Managing Director of Radiant Venture Capital, Mr Duncan Chiu; the Vice President and Chief Information Officer of WeBank Co Ltd, Mr Henry Ma; and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of WeLab Mr Simon Loong.
 
     In the panel discussion on "Career in Finance", speakers offered their insights on commercial banking, investment banking and insurance, whereas in the panel discussion on "Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Finance", speakers shared their success stories in developing a career or starting a business in financial technologies.
 
About the FSDC
 
     The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government established the FSDC in 2013 as a high-level, cross-sectoral advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong's financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development.
 
     The FSDC set up five committees, namely the Policy Research Committee, the Mainland Opportunities Committee, the New Business Committee, the Market Development Committee and the Human Capital Committee, as the five streams of its work.
