**********************************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, visited the Architectural Services Department today (October 20) to meet with its management and front-line staff to better understand the department’s work and challenges confronting them.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Law first met with the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Leung Koon-kee, and the directorate staff. He was briefed on the department's work in building and maintaining community facilities, and promoting best practices in the building industry.

Mr Law later toured the Architectural Branch and was briefed on the training for colleagues on the use of building information modelling (BIM) technology in projects, the application of which can help reduce project risk and control project costs. Mr Law said he was pleased to learn that the department is actively seeking to apply BIM technology in the design of major government capital works projects from next year onwards.

Mr Law then proceeded to the Project Management Branch and received a briefing on the work of managing government building projects.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Law met with staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on matters that concern them. He encouraged them to continue to provide quality and professional services to members of the public.
