Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled computer random access memory (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 18) seized 876 pieces of suspected smuggled computer random access memory (RAM) and a suspected extendible baton with an estimated market value of about $620,000 at Shenzhen Bay Control Point.

     Customs officers intercepted an outgoing private car at Shenzhen Bay Control Point for inspection last night and seized 876 pieces of suspected smuggled computer RAM and a suspected extendible baton inside the compartment of the private car. The 51-year-old male driver and 45-year-old male passenger were arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

     Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.

     Under the Weapons Ordinance, any person found guilty of possessing any prohibited weapon is liable to a maximum fine of $10,000 and imprisonment for three years.
