Woman arrested for infanticide in Wan Chai

     Police today (October 18) arrested a 22-year-old expatriate woman in suspected connection with an infanticide case in Wan Chai.

     About 7.30am today, Police received a report that a baby was found near a rubbish bin at the junction of Hennessy Road and Tonnochy Road. Officers sped to the scene and located the newborn baby girl with an umbilical cord attached. The baby girl was rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital and was certified dead at 7.44am.

     Upon investigation, Police arrested a 22-year-old expatriate woman in Wan Chai this afternoon for infanticide. She is being detained for further enquiries. Initial investigation revealed that she had suspectedly abandoned the baby girl after giving birth to her in a guesthouse in Wan Chai yesterday (October 17).

     Post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of the baby's death.

     Investigation by the District Crime Squad of Wan Chai District is underway.
