SHA visits Wong Tai Sin District (with photos)
Accompanied by the Chairman of the WTSDC, Mr Li Tak-hong, and the District Officer (Wong Tai Sin), Ms Annie Kong, Mr Lau first officiated at the opening ceremony of the community resource centre, Joyful Square, and toured the facilities in the centre.
Located at the Ground Floor of Kai Fai House in Choi Wan (II) Estate, the community resource centre is a project launched under the District-led Actions Scheme (DAS) of Wong Tai Sin District. In addition to library services, the centre also provides residents with the most up-to-date information that suits their needs, including information about new services rolled out by the Government, application eligibility and forms for allowances and subsidies, the latest traffic situation, and job vacancies in the district posted by the Labour Department. It also provides newspapers and periodicals as well as an area that can be flexibly used as a study room or a multi-purpose activity room, benefiting local residents of different age groups.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Lau said that with the full implementation of the DAS in the 18 districts in 2016, the scheme tackles issues on management of public areas and district problems through the co-ordination of the District Management Committees (DMCs) chaired by District Officers, with the active participation of District Councils and collaboration of relevant government departments. The WTSDC and the DMC of the district are fully aware of residents' keen demand for additional library services in the district. After 18 months of preparation, the Joyful Square community resource centre was launched smoothly and the staunch support of the WTSDC was indispensable.
Mr Lau then met with WTSDC members to exchange views on various district issues and matters of concern. He thanked the WTSDC for its strong co-operation with the Government in establishing a better and more harmonious community.
Mr Lau visited Lung Cheung Government Secondary School afterwards and toured its facilities including the school hall, an activity room and the playground. Lung Cheung Government Secondary School is one of the schools in the district joining the Opening up School Facilities for Promotion of Sports Development Scheme. The scheme provides additional subsidies to public sector schools to encourage them to open up their school facilities to sports associations and help promote a sporting culture in schools.
Before concluding his visit, Mr Lau went to inspect two government sites at Wing Ting Road in Ngau Chi Wan and Shatin Pass Road roundabout to learn about the feasibility of developing the two sites.
