Hong Kong fashion items are being showcased at a series of events in Japan, including a runway show at Shibuya Hikarie in Tokyo tonight (October 17) to present the collections of four Hong Kong brands.

Speaking at a reception after the runway show, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Shirley Yung, said that culture, creativity, art and design are an integral part of Hong Kong's competitiveness.

"Fashion designers are artists who are speaking through garments, while Hong Kong is also speaking through our fashion designers who are representing the artistic side of Hong Kong people. They are shaping not only the international profile of Hong Kong, but also our future," Ms Yung said.

In addition to the runway show tonight, a showroom display in Minami Aoyama and two pop-up stores in Shinjuku and Harajuku will introduce 14 Hong Kong apparel and accessory brands to Japan's fashion lovers and shoppers under the "Fashion Hong Kong" project.

"Fashion Hong Kong" is a series of international promotional events organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to promote Hong Kong fashion designers and labels in the global fashion arena.

These activities in Tokyo form part of a series of events in Japan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and are supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo).
