The Director of Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China in Beijing (BJO), Ms Gracie Foo, officiated at the opening ceremony of the "Together·Progress·Opportunity - Celebration of 20th Anniversary of the Return of HK to the Motherland" Roving Exhibition today (October 16). Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms Foo said, "It is of great significance to review the development of Hong Kong for the past 20 years, particularly the development and achievements of the past five years, on the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, together with the local residents, through the exhibition."

Other officiating guests of the ceremony included the Director of the Liaoning Liaison Unit, Mr Kilian Tung; Vice-Chairman of Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Mr Wang Song; Director General of the Subcommittee of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese of Liaoning Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Ms Jin Dongxiang; the Secretary-General of the Liaoning Provincial Office of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ying Zhongyuan; Vice-secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Work Committee of Departments Mr Zhao Man,  and the Deputy Director of the Liaoning Provincial Department of Culture, Ms Xu Hongying.

Ms Foo said that since the return to the motherland, Hong Kong had fused with the Mainland on various fronts. Hong Kong has its advantages under the "one country, two systems" arrangement, which facilitates bilateral trading and investment by "attracting foreign investment" as well as "going global", she added.

She noted that a number of Liaoning enterprises are seeking finance in Hong Kong as well as expanding their businesses. Hong Kong continues to rank first in terms of foreign investment in Liaoning Province. Since the beginning of the year, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and several Hong Kong youth groups visited Liaoning Province to conduct exchanges, which enhanced mutual understanding between the two places. The Liaoning Liaison Unit, which has been established for nearly three years, has been co-operating with Hong Kong-invested enterprises and Hong Kong residents in Liaoning to promote exchanges between the two places, and remarkable results have been achieved, said Ms Foo.

The exhibition, organised by the Liaoning Liaison Unit of the BJO, will be open to the public free of charge from tomorrow (October 17) until October 29. The exhibition brings the contents of the Beijing exhibition, which was held at the National Museum of China in Beijing from June 26 to July 16, to Shenyang, including the popular "heart-beat" interactive installation.

The main theme of the exhibition is the concept of "togetherness", the binding, driving force that propels the strength and prosperity of the motherland and Hong Kong in building a better future together. The exhibition also showcases how Hong Kong and the Mainland work together in fields such as trade, finance, technology, infrastructure, culture, sports, community, conservation and disaster relief, building closer connections with each other.

In addition, the Liaoning Liaison Unit held a gala dinner in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR in the evening. Around 200 guests attended the dinner including senior government officials of Liaoning Province and Shenyang Municipality; member of the National Committee of the CPPCC and former member of the Legislative Council, Mr Chan Kam-lam; regional chairpersons of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China; representatives from Hong Kong-invested enterprises in Liaoning; and Hong Kong residents and students in Liaoning.
