Fatal traffic accident in Sha Tin

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sha Tin last night (October 10) in which a 28-year-old man died.

     At about 7.52pm yesterday, a private car driven by a 42-year-old man, a motorcycle driven by a 28-year-old man, two private cars driven by a 34-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman respectively and a private car driven by a 52-year-old man were travelling in sequence along Tai Po Road - Sha Tin towards Tai Po. When approaching Mei Wo House of Wo Che Estate, there was traffic congestion ahead reportedly. The first four vehicles stopped accordingly but the last private car failed to brake, resulting in a chain collision. The motorcycle driver then fell down and was hit by the following private car.

     Sustaining serious injuries to his head, the motorcycle driver was certified dead at the scene. The 52-year-old private car driver was injured and sent to Princes of Wales Hospital for medical treatment in conscious state.

     The 52-year-old private car driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He is being detained for enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
