SCED to attend WTO Informal Ministerial Gathering in Morocco

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, will depart for Marrakech, Morocco, in the early hours on October 8 (Sunday) to attend the World Trade Organization (WTO) Informal Ministerial Gathering to be held on October 9 and 10 (Marrakech time).
 
     The Informal Ministerial Gathering will be an opportunity for participating trade ministers to continue the discussion on issues under negotiation with a view to reaching balanced results during the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in December. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development will serve as one of the Vice Chairs of the Ministerial Conference.
 
     On the sidelines of the Informal Ministerial Gathering, Mr Yau will have bilateral meetings with other participating ministers.
 
     Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong on October 12. The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr Yau's absence.
