The Civil Aid Service (CAS) today (October 1) held the "Community Service for Social Inclusion" promotional event  at the CAS Headquarters to introduce non-Chinese speaking (NCS) youths to local youth uniformed groups and encourage them to join in serving the community.

     Addressing the event, the CAS Commissioner, Dr Ernest Lee, said the CAS wants to spread the message that NCS youths enjoy the same opportunities as local teenagers and can join the uniformed groups. Through group training and activities, young people from all ethnicities and backgrounds can develop a good rapport and serve the community together, he added.

     The charity film, "Our Days in 6E", was played at the event to enable the cadets to better understand the racial and cultural differences between the NCS and the local community so as to minimise racial prejudices. During a sharing session, some guests shared with the cadets the values of respect and inclusiveness, as well as ways to maintain a harmonious relationship among people of different races so as to build a fully inclusive society. 

     Guests of the event included various performers from "Our Days in 6E", and teachers and students from Chung Sing Benevolent Society Mrs Aw Boon Haw Secondary School and Caritas Tuen Mun Marden Foundation Secondary School.

     The CAS Commissioner, Dr Ernest Lee, presented "Community Service for Social Inclusion" certificates of appreciation to the guests and representatives from various organisations and encouraged them to continue fostering connections between the CAS and the NCS communities, thus promoting the social inclusiveness message of "Hong Kong is a Home for All".

     CAS members and cadets then took part in a community service by distributing hiking safety checklists at Shing Mun Country Park to promote the message "Put Safety First When Hiking" to members of the public.
