Young musicians from Hong Kong, Macau and Guangzhou to perform in "Music Spectacular" concert

     The Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Music Office under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Guangzhou Symphony Youth Orchestra and a cello ensemble comprising more than 200 young cellists from Hong Kong, Macau and Guangzhou will jointly perform at a concert entitled "Music Spectacular" at 3pm on October 29 (Sunday) at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium Arena.

     Under the baton of Chu Yibing, the cello ensemble will play an array of works, including Gershwin's "Fragment", Mancini's "The Pink Panther" and Mascagni's "Intermezzo" from "Cavalleria Rusticana". Chu will join the cello ensemble as a cello soloist to perform Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme".

     Chu will also conduct the youth symphony orchestras from the three places to jointly present Holst's "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from "The Planets".

     In addition, Ng and Dr Joseph Kam will conduct the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra to play Strauss's "Die Fledermaus Overture", Dvoƙák's "Slavonic Dance, Op. 46, No. 8" and Verdi's "La Forza del Destino Overture".

     The Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven's "Coriolan Overture" and the first movement of his "Symphony No. 2" under the baton of Hoi Kin-wa, while the Guangzhou Symphony Youth Orchestra will play Tan Dun's "Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds" and Respighi's "The Pines of Rome" under the baton of Jing Huan.

     The "Music Spectacular" concert is a celebration programme of the Music Office's 40th anniversary and one of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
