Eligibility criteria to be relaxed for Training Subsidy Programme for Children on the Waiting List of Subvented Pre-school Rehabilitation Services next month
The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today (September 28) that the eligibility criteria for children on the waiting list for the Special Child Care Centre (SCCC) service in applying for the "Training Subsidy Programme for Children on the Waiting List of Subvented Pre-school Rehabilitation Services" (TSP) will be relaxed with effect from October 1.
A spokesman for the SWD said that the TSP aims at enabling children from low-income families in need of rehabilitation services to acquire self-financing services run by Recognised Service Providers (RSPs) to facilitate their learning and development while waiting for subvented pre-school rehabilitation services. In order to enhance support for children on the waiting list for the SCCC service, the Government has decided to waive the means tests for these children in applying for the training subsidy with an additional provision of about 1 500 training places to meet the training needs of these children.
The SWD will issue letters to invite applications from parents or guardians of children on the waiting list for the SCCC service.
For children on the waiting list for the Early Education and Training Centre (EETC) or the Integrated Programme for Disabled Children in Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centre (IP) service, a means test is still applicable to their application for the training subsidy. They are also eligible for the subsidy if the family household income is at or less than 75 per cent of the Median Monthly Domestic Household Income.
Details of the application procedures and the TSP, as well as a list of the new batch of RSPs for providing training services under the programme have been uploaded to the SWD website (www.swd.gov.hk).
