Regarding the incident of a Hong Kong group tour which encountered traffic accident in Nansha of Guangdong Province last night (September 25), the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) continued maintaining close contact with the members of the Immigration Division of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO), the tour agency concerned and the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong to proactively following up on the case.

     Members of the Immigration Division of GDETO had immediately arrived at the local hospitals concerned to offer condolences to the injured and provide them with supports and assistance. At present, ImmD and the members of the Immigration Division of GDETO continued to contact the injured residents and family members of the deceased and the injured to deliberate matters related to medical transfer, corpse handling and issuance of relevant documents, and provided appropriate advice and assistance according to their individual situation.

     The incident involves 43 Hong Kong residents of which two of them died and two remained hospitalised and receiving medical treatments at the local hospital, meanwhile one person had been discharged from the hospital earlier today and chose to remain in the Mainland.  With the assistance and arrangements by members of the Immigration Division of GDETO, 32 Hong Kong residents had returned to Hong Kong early this morning while six other persons had been discharged from hospitals and returned to Hong Kong this afternoon and evening respectively. ImmD acted according to their will and the situation to render assistance or arrange them to be hospitalised for further observation and treatment.

     ImmD and the Immigration Division of GDETO will continue to closely liaise with the injured residents, family members of the deceased and the injured, and the tour agency concerned to render practicable assistance and follow up the case.  Hong Kong residents travelling outside Hong Kong who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of ImmD at (852) 1868.
