*******************************************************
The Working Group invited about 800 young trainees to the ceremony, and asked youngsters who have joined the E&M industry to share their working experiences to showcase the professional image and promising career prospects of the E&M trade.
While addressing the ceremony, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, said that E&M facilities are closely connected to people's daily life. Noting the keen demand for E&M personnel in recent years, Mr Cheung said that it underscored the abundant opportunities for career development in the industry. He encouraged young trainees to equip themselves and contribute to Hong Kong's development.
The Life President of the Hong Kong Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Contractors, Dr Otto Poon, said in his speech that the ceremony demonstrated the continual efforts of the Working Group in promoting the E&M trade, and its determination to attract new blood for the long-term development of Hong Kong.
The Government has all along used multiple channels in attracting new talents to the industry. With the active participation of the EMSD, the Working Group has organised a number of large-scale promotional events and recruitment expos in recent years. The EMSD has invested $600 million in enhancing training efforts with the E&M industry and related organisations to offer training to 1 000 technicians over five years. The E&M Young Ambassador Programme, organised by the EMSD has also attracted over 6 000 youngsters, which could in turn encourage them to join the industry.
