Public engagement session on youth development policy held (with photos)
***************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Commission on Youth:

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, and the Chairman of the Commission on Youth (CoY), Mr Lau Ming-wai, attended a public engagement session held by the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) and the CoY at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre this evening (September 6) to listen to the public's views on youth development policy.

Youth development initiatives cover a wide spectrum and involve a variety of policy areas. The Government has published a booklet about youth development work, which summarises and categorises youth development work by the relevant bureaux and departments into seven policy areas, namely "Education", "Health", "Multi-faceted Development", "Global Perspectives", "Volunteerism", "Work" and "Youth Engagement and Community Participation".

In order to examine the future direction of youth development work with young people and stakeholders, the HAB and the CoY are organising a series of public engagement events from May to October this year. They include four public engagement sessions on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon, in New Territories East and in New Territories West to collect opinion from young people and stakeholders from various districts.

Moreover, several focus group meetings will be arranged during the above-mentioned period to invite relevant organisations of different fields, youth groups and representatives, schools and parents to express their views on pertinent topics.

Details of the Public Engagement on Youth Development Policy are available on the CoY's webpage (www.coy.gov.hk/en/activities/youth_engagement.html#1). Members of the public are welcome to send in their comments on the youth development work in Hong Kong.

Upon conclusion of the Public Engagement on Youth Development Policy, the CoY expects to complete its related report by the end of this year to provide a reference for the way forward for youth development work in Hong Kong.
