SED on student headcount
************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, at a media session after attending an inauguration ceremony for new undergraduate students of the Open University of Hong Kong today (August 29):

Reporter: How is the Government stepping up measures in locating and tackling the issues of "shadow students"?

Secretary for Education: As I said before, I think in the coming year what we will do is we will step up the sampling, or, as you know, in the middle of September, we will do a headcount, and we will step up and do more headcounts on that day. And we will also discuss with the schools on different areas, including the reporting as well as, as someone has mentioned, the cases when someone is being promoted to different grades. These are the areas that we will also be looking at. But it is also very important that the schools should report accurate and timely information to the Education Bureau.
