Art exhibitions and carnivals among highlights of 20th anniversary celebrations (with photos)

     Two art exhibitions and three carnivals will be held in the coming days as part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

     "The Art-Tune Encounter: A Gramophone Remembrance of Hong Kong and Shanghai" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the China Record Corporation.

     The exhibition, focusing on the Chinese gramophone industry's development in the 1950s and '60s along with interesting stories about two record companies in Shanghai and Hong Kong, will be displayed at the Arts Resource Centre, 10/F, Hong Kong Central Library, from August 30 to November 30. Admission is free.

     There will also be a talk on the history of the Chinese record industry on August 30 and another about early martial arts film music in Hong Kong on September 20. Walk-in admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

     Wan Chai Carnival "Building a Harmonious Community" in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Reunification with the Motherland will be staged at soccer pitch No. 4 and the central lawn of Victoria Park on September 2 from 2.30pm to 8pm.

     Organised by the Wan Chai District Office and Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service, activities will include a tug-of-war competition, game stalls, an exhibition, food stalls, a photo corner with Shetland ponies and more. Admission is free.

     The Yulan Festival of the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community 2017 for the Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, presented by the Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations, will be held at soccer pitch No. 1 of Victoria Park from September 1 to 3.
 
     Members of the public will be able to enjoy various workshops, a 3-D shooting area, an exhibition, cultural tours, seminars, food booths and more. Visitors can make a wish for Hong Kong at the Heaven Wish-making Area on September 1 from 1pm to 3pm.
 
     The opening hours of the event are from 10am to 8pm. Admission is free. To participate in the workshops and cultural tours, registration is required and can be made on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/yulanfestival or by calling 2559 2181.

     The Carnival to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, a celebration event for all, including ethnic minorities, with a ceremony, booth games, performances, health talks and local snacks, will be held at the G/F Hall of Yuen Long Town Hall on September 2 from 2.30pm to 4.45pm.
 
     The event, organised by Yuen Long Town Hall Management Committee Ltd, aims to promote social integration. Members of the public are welcome to join and admission is free.

     "Exhibition of Winning Entries of Youth Calligraphy and Painting Competition in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR", to be presented by the Central and Western District Council, the Central and Western District Office and Tung Sin Tan will be staged at the Exhibition Hall, 6/F, Sheung Wan Civic Centre.

     The event aims to arouse interest in calligraphy and painting among youths, as well as promote Chinese culture, with more than 100 award-winning calligraphy and painting exhibits created by students and other members of the public.

     The award presentation ceremony will be held at 2pm on September 2 and the exhibition will be open on September 2 from 2pm to 5pm and September 3 from 10am to 5pm. Visitors will able to enjoy on-site demonstrations by guests and winners.

     To share the joy of the 20th anniversary, the HKSAR Government is joining hands with different sectors to organise a wide variety of activities and events under the theme "Together • Progress • Opportunity".

     Altogether, more than 900 events and activities are being staged by the Government and different sectors until the end of 2017.
