Sick person in custody dies in public hospital

     A sick 70-year-old male person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died today (August 25) in a public hospital.

     The person in custody was sentenced on July 27, 2017, for the offence of blackmail. On July 28, the person in custody suffered from shortness of breath and was sent to the centre hospital for treatment. Upon examination and treatment, the institutional Medical Officer referred him to a public hospital for further treatment. Since then, he all along received in-patient treatment in the hospital with the diagnosis of lung cancer. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 1.11am today.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
