Rising pianist Daniil Trifonov to make Hong Kong debut in September
***************************************************************

One of the most sought-after pianists of his generation, Russia's Daniil Trifonov, will perform in Hong Kong for the first time in September.

Trifonov will perform Chopin's "Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor", Schumann's "Chopin", Grieg's "Studie" (Hommage à Chopin), Barber's "Nocturne" and Tchaikovsky's "Un poco di Chopin", as well as two "Variations on a Theme of Chopin" by Rachmaninov and Mompou.

Born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, in 1991, Trifonov started playing piano when he was 5 and gave his first performance with an orchestra at the age of 8, an occasion etched in the soloist's memory because of the loss of one of his baby teeth midway through the concert.

Trifonov has won multiple awards and his career has seen a meteoric rise. In 2011, he won the 13th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv before returning home to secure first prize, the Gold Medal, and the Grand Prix at the 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition. His work was already known to influential critics and concert promoters thanks to his appearance in 2010 at the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Since then, Trifonov has captivated the music world with his unique blend of powerful intensity and dexterity, attracting acclaim everywhere he has performed.

Trifonov has travelled the world as a recitalist and concerto soloist. His list of credits includes debut recitals at Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris and a host of other leading venues. He has also appeared with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

"Encore Series: Piano Recital by Daniil Trifonov" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm on September 26 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $200, $280, $350 and $420 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk).
